Track

One of Hailee's teachers told her she should be on the track team -- Hailee thought it sounded like an interesting idea so she joined ..... it's kept her (and us) pretty busy.

The coaches are still trying to figure out what each child is best at. Hailee doesn't really enjoy the running so they are trying her at discus, shotput and long jump. She had her first competition on Thursday after school.

She was nervous .... waiting for her turn ...
Neither Jack or I have any idea of how to throw a discus. We were surpised at how heavy it is and how the girls have to wind up to throw it. Some spun around a couple of times and threw -- most of them (Hailee included) stand in one spot and sort of wind up their arm to throw. It was interesting to watch. Below is Hailee winding up to throw the discus ....

After 3 swings with her arm she was ready to let it go ....

Each competitor is required to throw 3 -- there are markers (in this case fellow track members) standing on the sidelines -- they watch where the discus hits and then they run out and mark it with a stick. After the 3 shots the throws are measured. Hailee must have quite a bit of strength because she did a really good job -- her longest throw was 53 feet 6 inches -- not bad for her first meet. We're guessing that she placed in 4th or 5th.

Gabi was cheering her on and shouting encouragement ....

And playing with Dad while we waited. There's a LOT of waiting around during a track meet!!!!

Checking out the world upside down.

Hailee did very well and we're very proud of her. Looking forward to seeing her improvement as the season continues.
More updates coming -- Gabi's concert & swimming lessons .....

Gabi is looking so much older. Hailee sounds like she keeps busy and is a great big sister. Thanks for the updates.

It sure sounds like you are busy! I hope that Hailee has fun learning all the different things to do in track. I was part of my schools disc and ball throw team when I was in high school too. I love all the pictures, I will have to show Oksana when she gets home from school. She likes track too but her area is running. :) She also wanted to tell Gabi not to be scared of swimming lessons...she was scared when she started too but now she says its just so much fun. (I am sure she will explain in her letter) Love the update and glad to hear that you were able to get the info off that site. I think they listed everyones house at being over a million...I wish. :) Then we'd have the next property paid off in a beat. :)
Talk to you again soon.
