Today, well .... we're right back down to earth. After processing the fact that we had a court date we were wondering how long it would be before we would be invited to travel. So ..... I asked ....... I wish I hadn't .........
Somewhere between setting our court date, requesting additional paperwork and my question the courts decided to follow some of the new laws that were established. This was the answer to my question:
Honestly, no idea on a potential time line yet: court to home takes a bit of doing.... If I understand correctly, under the new laws, they will try to find the birth mother to be present during court....if they can't locate her, they may postpone the court date or they may postpone the court findings for a few days following court. So don't pack your bags yet: there may be delays.....we honestly don't have a time line so we have to just "hurry up and wait" again.....
Needless to say I went into panic mode ....... all I saw were the words "birth mother" "present" "postpone court." The emotions were raw, insecurities surfaced and memories of the aunt coming forward flooded my thoughts. My fingers flew when writing the questions ..... Could it happen again? Could we lose Gabi????
The answer that was received from Bulgaria:
There is no guarantee that the Court hearing will pass on July 27 , because according to the Bulgarian law it’s necessary the summons of the biological mother. Like as we are not sure if the summons will be possible , knowing that she hasn’t permanent address and it’s hard to be located the Court hearing could be postpone for September due to the summer vacation of the Court. We would like to you know that there is no risk for the adoption procedure , but the summons is compulsory according to the Bulgarian law and it could take more time.
So, NO, we can't lose Gabi to her mother but things could be drawn out much longer .......... it's back to earth with a huge thud!!
On a much more positive note: We would like to wish Jonathan and Amanda a very special anniversary! Memories of a beautiful bride and a very proud groom, a glorious day, the sound of ocean waves, delicious food, great dancing and to end it all a huge campfire on the beach with yummy smores ...... seems like just yesterday!!! Congratulations you guys! We love you!!

Wow...Good news and bad news. While reading I also had my heart go into my throat at the thought of you losing her. I'm overjoyed that the adoption is still moving forward regardless of the Bio- Mothers presence. Now I can breathe again. I hope the court date will be in July still, it would be nice for Gabi to get a bit used to her new life in the summer before she needs to go to school. That and she will have so much more bonding time with Hailee too before school begins. Can't wait to hear what happens now.
Thinking of you!
Catherine, Jamey and Oksana
My heart went thud. Dang the red tape. Can't they see a little girl needs her mama and papa? So unfair and so sorry that your wait may be longer than you expected. But thankfully they can't take your Gabi away. Praying that that day comes sooner rather than later.
