We've Arrived

Well, we're here ....... what a beautiful city. We're in a very nice apartment in the middle of the center of the town of Sophia. The streets are paved in hexagon bricks and are the smallest streets we've ever seen. There is a lane for parking and just enough room left to drive a car through, everything is one way. The center street is like State Street in Madison -- shops everywhere and no cars driving though. There is an electric trolley that runs from end to end. We'll be exploring all the shops when we return to Sofia on Friday.

Our trip to Bulgaria was typical of the Komoll-Ollmann black cloud travelers .... there were storms in Chicago which caused our flight from Milwaukee to be late -- over an hour ..... that was the beginning. We had plenty of time to catch our connection in O'Hare so that was good, however, after we boarded our flight the storms continued and we sat on the plane, on the runway for almost two hours. The 747 that we were so excited to fly was the most cramped and hot flight we have ever flown -- of course, that flight was the longest! We arrived in Frankfort with just enough time to cross the HUGE airport -- go through 2 passport controls and have our bags x-rayed 3 times. Now that may not sound like a big deal, however, at each screening point we had to unload the computer, the DVD player, the pockets, the shampoos & stuff and all that -- then, on top of going through the scanner without a thing that could possibly beep you still had to be wanded over just in case -- and, of course, when you're in a hurry is when security decides that each of your bags have to be searched manually and you have to go have a "special test" done on the DVD bag so it had to go to the "special test room."

Once we arrived in Bulgaria Petco was waiting for us. What a nice person he is -- he showed us the apartment and walked us to the best place to exchange money, showed us the restaurants close to us and even helped carry the luggage up 3 flights of stairs.

Tomorrow we start our day at 9 a.m. -- we'll head to the notary first. We're doing things a little backward because of the holidays that begin on May 1st. Normally we would meet Gabriela and decide if we were going to continue before filling out the paperwork. They asked us to do it this way to save valuable time, we know that if it doesn't feel right we are not obligated.

The town Gabriela is in is Razgrad -- about 4 hours from Sofia. We will have Petco as our driver and a translator along tomorrow. The foster family and a social worker will meet with us -- the foster family is there to answer any questions that we may have ..... we're really nervous!

Lisa and Hailee -- so glad to hear that you guys had a relaxing day. Did you get time to start on that science project? (see Hailee, I can even nag a bit from Bulgaria) Oh, and Hailee, Dad wants you to know that the floors in our Sofia apartment are just like the floors in Uralsk. There are even dogs running around, just not as many.

Jonathan, Amanda & Hayden - hope that Hayden is feeling better ... please let us know!

Well, guys that's it for now, Jack is already snoring away and I'm exhausted. Will post more later. Love to everyone & remember to keep those comments coming.

So excited to know you arrived safe and sound, despite your not-so-perfect journey there. By now, you should have met Gabriela. Can't wait to hear all about her. Will be checking back later, eagerly awaiting details of sweet Miss Gabriella! :)

You're missing nothing here except MORE rain and COLD. Wish we were back in FL.

So glad to hear you arrived safely! But very sorry the Komoll-Ollmann Cloud followed you as well. Maybe it isn't us and it's just the poor airport systems. We really aren't the only ones with travel nightmares...

It looks like rain and storms here for today and again tomorrow. Unfortunately, the pond is rising and with it at it's shore tops already I am again beginning to get a little worried.

Steve said they are set for closing on May 15th with moving day set for the 18th. Sure wish we could be there for that, but it doesn't appear that will happen.

Many prayers going out for your meeting tomorrow. Hoping that Gabriela will fulfill your dream.

Keep safe.

Hugs and Kisses...

Happy to hear you made it safe, and settled in. We can't wait to celebrate with the good news about Gabriella Lynn. We're spending this weekend babysitting our Grandson, Levi, he's 5 months old and just a delight. Bruce says "he's nervous around babies",but he's doing just great!! We'll check in later..Remember to exhale, all will go well.

Love, Bruce and Donna

Thanks for the update, I couldn't wait to get home from church to check and see. I guess you and Jack would be bored with a smooth non eventful trip. Glad you made it safely and with enough time.

You and Jack have seen more of the world than we have, just no beaches. Hoping all is going well. By now you have met Gabriela, if you call Lisa and Hailee, have them call us and tell us all.

Everything is good here. We babysat for Ben and Sadie last night at their house. They were suppose to come to our house and stay, but Sadie got the croop cough the night before, I wasn't taking any chances. I called Bon this am and she said she is doing okay. Hope your little one is better by now.

Will be stopping in often to check things out, call us if you need to talk. Remember when you went for Hailee? How did all those years go by so fast. I can remember when you called and talked about her loving her little bag with the crackers in it.

Sending our love and lots of support and hugs. A special prayer was given for you in church this am.
Hope all is well.......

Hi Mom and Dad,
So glad to hear that you are there, and safe..and I am sure happy to be ready to rest. Cant wait to see pics of the city, and hear how things went with meeting the social worker, foster family, and Garbeila..we know things will be fine...
So onto us..we had big loud storms last night, and of course Hailee and Codee slept right through them all night... and this morning? So far this morning, we have relaxed, played with Codee (who by the way still thinks that cats are play toys that make noise, hiss, and jump at her whenever she charges at them, its become a game to her)and YES...
The science project...We cleared up how many Nuetrons went with the electons, and protons, for Aluminum... and even brought up the paints, and painted the nucleus black, and the electrons blue..so I am ready to get this done today, and Hailee doesnt believe me about where everything goes, so she wants to wait until tomorrow to "Double Check" with the teacher. So I will wait until tomorrow, this morning I had to remind her that she couldnt wait till Mom and Dad came home, she wanted to though...
The plan for the rest of the day? We are going to get her bag packed up for Aunt Pats later this week, do some errands and things to get out of the house, hopefully we'll get to walk Codee as the rain is still here this morning...poor puppy...so we'll see how the rest of the day goes. I will try to get Hailee to sit down so I can write from her tonight..We love you both very, very much, and cant wait to read more about how things are going!
Love You!
Lisa & Hailee & of course Codee, Jase, Dusty, & the fish (a.k.a. the zoo house for the next week) :*)

Pat shared your blog info with me this morning. How wonderful to hear that you are wanting to add another child to your family. Your family is so loving and giving and I know God is smiling on your wishes and giving His blessing. Have a safe trip home and I will keep you in my prayers.
P.S. How about Gabriella MAVIS Ollmann??? Sounds good to me!Could we take a vote on it?
Love and hugs to you all.

Hi Mom and Dad,
This is Hailee, right now I just finished watching my last movie of the weekend, and am cuddling with Dusty while he crabs at Codee. I think Codee misses you both she hasnt been the same since you left, not a lot of eating, and not as much tail wagging.
I enjoyed being with the cats and the dog this weekend, and had to listen to them whine at each other.
I am looking forward this week to finishing my science project that Lisa and I started today.
Did you meet Gabriela yet? If so, what is she like? Does she remind you of me when we first met? (Hold on...I have to get some cat hair out of my mouth.)
I am missing our time here at the house together, its not the same with you gone...even though I get to sleep in your bed. I had some good laughs this weekend when Lisa made me listen to some of her music from high school, I thought it was horrible but I was a good sister and listened anyway.
Thats it for tonight, gotta run and get ready for school tomorrow.
Cant wait to read more about Gabriela.

Jack & Cheryl – Wishing you a few wonderful days as you find Gabriella. Hopefully the hard part of your journey is behind you. We will keep our fingers crossed for good news.
As Pat mentioned in her post, our little Sadiekinz has a very funky sounding cough this weekend. The good news is, she really does not seem sick until she lays down for bed, then the raspy voice comes out. We call her Truck Stop Pearl, just like her Grandma Pat (who is known to sound like she has been doing a lot of smoking when she get sick).

Bonnie (and Brett, Benjamin & Truck Stop Pearl)

P.s. My middle name is also Lynn. I know first hand that when my mom addressed me as ‘Miss Lynn’ – I was in trouble. Let’s hope you don’t need to pull card out anytime soon ☺

Hola. Hope you enjoyed your flight. Today Hayden seemed to be doing better...then about an hour ago he felt really warm again. Took his temp...103.4. Starting to get worried/scared. He has another appointment at the doctor tomorrow. I will let you know how everything goes. Enjoy your day!!

Wow—you're there already. (Where have I been?) Is Bulgaria a lot different than Kaz? The city of Sophia sounds very old world—cool. Sorry the flight out was so painful, but you got there safely and that's what counts.

We all can't wait to meet your beautiful daughter.
