Listen up to what the girls have to say:
We were getting a little worried but at 6:15 p.m. Rossi came to the apartment with our paperwork. She had to wait a long time at the embassy for it but it's here! Our prayers were answered .... thank you!
While we waited for Rossi we decided to get out of the apartment since it was such a beautiful day. After much walking we found a new road -- we checked it out and Hailee was ecstatic to see a Kentucky Fried Chicken! In the excitement of the visa issue I hadn't made lunch, the girls had a snack but now Hailee was suddenly STARVING ..... hmmmmm .....
Even Gabi liked it .... not sure if it's better than McDonald's but she ate it all.
Since we're finally on our last day here and Hailee's feeling pretty comfortable with the area she asked if she and Gabi could walk to the store for a candy bar while I worked on the packing. Oh gosh .... she is 13; but we're in a foreign country; it's just down the block a bit; but does she really know the way; have to start letting go sometime ..... so they headed out. I was standing on the balcony when they came out the front door .....
And then started to cross the street (bonus points for Hailee she's holding Gabi's hand without a reminder) ......
They've reached the other side of the street and Gabi's checking to see if I'm still there -- of course I am ..... getting ready to put the zoom on the camera too I might add!
There they go -- notice how they couldn't walk on the sidewalk because there's a car parked where you're supposed to walk. Hope she's listening for cars behind her......
There getting closer -- still holding hands and doing fine .....
Almost to the store, it's just past the men talking in the street, hard to see the door because of the shade from the tree .... they made it and I had to admit that Hailee was very responsible and didn't let go of Gabi at all ......
Just an FYI --- I did stand right on that balcony until they arrive safely back to the apartment door ...... Hailee is growing up ..............
That's it from Sofia -- have pretty much everything packed up; just that last minute stuff for the morning. Gabi seems to understand what's happening especially since I asked Rossi to talk to her about what to expect tomorrow. Wish I would have captured her eyes when Rossi told her we were going to be on the plane from Amsterdam to Minneapolis for over 9 hours ... too funny!
By the way our flight leaves at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning (midnight for you guys) -- Bulgarian Air - flight 461 - Arriving Amsterdam at 9:00 a.m. -- almost a 2 hour layover
Leaving Amsterdam at 10:50 a.m. - Northwest flight 41 to Minneapolis -- arriving at 12:55 p.m.
Have to do customs -- also immigration so they will allow Gabi into the country. As soon as we enter US air space she is an American citizen. though so we get to process through the citizen line and not the other -- hoping it's a lot quicker.
Leave Minneapolis NW flight 158 at 3:25 p.m. -- arrive in Milwaukee at 4:38 p.m.
See you there!!!

Horray!!! Finally after all the hard work, frustration, waiting, hoping and praying you are on your way home tomorrow!!! I can't tell you how excited I am for you!!! Good luck on all your flights and safe travels. Not sure if you already planned to but when we brought Oksana home I wish we'd taken more pictures of her in the airports and on the airplanes to remember her actually traveling home. Great Job Hailee on your walk to the store. It takes a confident person to navigate the streets and stores of a foriegn country and at 13...I am very impressed! Congrats..You sure are growing up and being quite responsible.

Gabi, Good Luck on your journey home tomorrow. I know you will love America and seeing your new family all together for the first time. We have been reading about you for a long time and know that your family is very excited to finally have you with them forever. Our little girl, who is 9 years old, came home from a country near Bulgaria last year and she wants you to know that she was scared on the airplane and when she came home because she couldn't understand anyone. She says not to be scared because you will learn English very quickly and because no matter what, your mom and dad and family will love you always. Have fun on your way home!
