Quick Update

Posting a quick update .... we're here. The flights were right on time, weather was great, had plenty of room on the Northwest flights (even saw my boss on the flight to MN) -- Bulgarian Air was more like Lufthansa but it worked -- Hailee and I arrived excited .... BUT, yes there's a but .... no one was here to greet us.

Tried to be all cool about it so Hailee wouldn't get upset but after an hour I was starting to get a little nervous ..... went to a security guard, no english, he sent us to the information booth. Engligh there but no working phone to call out of the airport, sent me to the store to purchase a phone card so I could go to the phones and call Petko .... lady in the store was very helpful and $30 later I had a phone card, went to the phones and called the numbers the agency had supplied for the incountry agency -- disconnected numbers -- getting more nervous .... stopped at a little phone store to see if I'd done something wrong, guy was "very busy," waited 1/2 hour for him to get "unbusy" and he tried the #'s on his cell, yep he agreed they didn't work -- asked him if I could call the US from the airport phones, he thought so, but mentioned that I could buy some card to fit my cell phone and it would work ... it didn't! So, by now I'm getting more nervous and Hailee is on the verge of tears .... went back to the phones and tried to call collect .... no answer on the agency phone numbers I had for their home .... tried our home, our line doesn't accept collect calls .... stopped a young lady coming out of the potty - did she speak English, yes a little, could she tell me what it said so I could make a credit card call .... SHE could ... I called Jack and, of course, the tough exterior melted and I started crying the minute I heard his voice .... He said he'd take care of it ....

Not sure how far he got .... Hailee and I were waiting 1/2 hour or so and then going to call him back, we got water & a snack and sat down by the incoming international flight doors ..... just short of the 1/2 hour a young man came up to us holding our name. He said he'd been waiting for us an hour, he was just starting to get worried about us ... told him we'd been waiting for him for over 3 hours ...... he showed me his sheet which said we were arriving on Lufthansa at 4:05 p.m. -- I showed him my itinerary which said we were arriving Bulgarian Air at 2:10 p.m. .... not sure where the mixup came in ......

So, we're here..... thank you Jack for helping, we tried to call you back and the international operator said the line was busy, then it was unreachable .... I'm so sorry we scared you .... more tomorrow .... I'm exhausted .... but we're here! Have to be on the sidewalk at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow to go PICK UP GABRIELA!

Hi Mom and Hailee!
WHEW! What a relief...I was getting worried about you two...I am so sorry to hear about your problems when you arrived in Sofia...I can not imagine how scary it was...although the best thing is that YOU ARE THERE! And tomorrow you will get to pick up Gabi and you will not have to leave her there with Ganka, only you do have the hard job of saying goodbye to them...but the reward is that throughout all of the trials and tribulations of the last 2 plus years, FINALLY we are going to be able to have Gabi with us, from tomorrow she is being welcomed into her forever family! I cant wait to read how things went..Love you both very much and have been thinking of you non stop since you left.
All of my Love,
Lisa

OH MY!!!
Reading that just brought back memories of Lisa trying to help us from Wisconsin when we were re-routed for our cruise. Only we had our men with us. I'm sure it was very scary to be there with just you and Hailee. I so wish I could have been there for support!

So glad everything turned out OK in the end. Hope you sleep well and your trip to pick up Gabi goes smoothly. Can't wait to hear.

Love ya,
Linda

Wow, what great news to hear you had awseome weather and flights...and then for what happened to the airport when you arrived. again Wow. I hope that nothing like that happens again while you are there. I know exactly how you felt having been in the same type of situation in Almaty on our return from Uralsk. Its very very scary to say the least. I am glad that it was all worked out in the end but will be praying that nothing else goes amiss in the days you are over there. :) Can't wait to hear how Gabi takes to seeing you again and knowing that you are her forever Mom and Sister and that she will be finally able to go home with you once and for all. SO EXCITED!!!
I can't wait to read the next post.

Oh my gosh Cheryl I am so sorry you had to start your trip that way. I'm sure the rest will be all UP hill. Pete thought that maybe he was on the same flight as you. FUNNY! Good luck meeting Gabriela. Mary Whalen
