Saturday Evening Already

We had a relaxing, lazy kind of day. Gabriela and I were up pretty early so we were ready for breakfast but Miss Hailee was still sleeping ..... it was after 9:30; time for Hailee to get her hiney out of bed -- this is what Gabi and I saw when we opened up the door .....Gabi hung back unsure of what was happening - I started pulling the covers off Hailee and Gabriela joined right in --- but tentatively, she was watching the whole time to see what Hailee was going to do .....

And then, of course, you have to jump on the bed and tickle and make all kinds of noise to get Hailee up -- here's Gabriela's reaction to the silliness -- she still wasn't ready to join me. Then again; maybe she's never had to do this before - another important thing to learn!
And then Hailee jumped up and grabbed Gabriela for a big hug!

Right after that I left to get breakfast ready. I could hear the two of them giggling and laughing and then all went quiet -- returned to find them like this .......

Our objective for the day -- you've got have some type of objective when you're heading out -- otherwise why go, right? Those of you who have been in this situation know what I'm talking about -- there's not much on the agenda so you create something. Anyway our mission was to pick up juice, milk and fruit at the market -- our special mission was to find a spatula of some type ..... we were off ................

It was a busy day on the streets today -- see Hailee's shoulder in the picture? She's taken to walking a few steps in front of me, do you think it has anything to do with that tripping problem I have??? This way she can look back and pretend she has no idea who I am .......

Periodically when you're walking you'll find these little park like areas. There are usually a lot of benches and flowers -- kind of like the rest spots you find along our highways, no porta-potties though -- we took a break from our little hike here. Most days there is some type of entertainment happening at each stop -- today there was a gentlemen playing the clarinet -- quite beautifully, Hailee wanted his picture but as soon as she put up the camera he stopped playing and shook his finger at her just like Gabi does.

And then ..... shortly after the rest stop we found it, a store that carries kitchen items ..... Hailee and I were so excited! She took a picture as we were walking in. By the way what you're looking at is pretty much the size of the store -- there is another wall where the utensils were hanging. And then we saw it ------- A spatula .... Whoo-hoo, we'll be able to turn over pancakes and eggs. The owner brought it over - we asked the price -------- 21 lev for a spatula -- what, you've got to be kidding .... I don't have my calculator with but thinking that's about $15 for a SPATULA -- I don't think so, thank you very much! We'll keep looking ....
Along our walk we saw these circular balconies -- guessing they are the fancier apartments in the area. There were about 15 floors and each balcony area had different color flowers -- very impressive.
Off of the streets are little alleyways that lead to a separate little shopping area -- most of the alleys we've found have had a restaurant and several little shops. We headed down this alley because Gabi kept pointing to it -- as we got closer she continued to point and started to pull gently on my arm. When we stopped just inside the shop area I looked up and this is what she was pointing at .............I'm so glad the sign was in English ....... can you imagine if we had gone in????? There was a toy store next to the sex shop and I asked if thats what she wanted, NO, she wanted the store with the red flashing sign ...... she asked me "yes or no?" -- definitely a NO!

Which reminds me -- she's beginning to learn to communicate better with us. She brings something to me -- a snack, juice, camera, etc and says "yes or no?" Today she called Hailee two or three times when she wanted her. Hailee even called me from the bedroom and I didn't hear her -- Gabi said "Mama, Hailee" and pointed to the bedroom. It's coming along!!!
Here's the entrance to our apartment -- it is a locked door but the first time we saw it I think Hailee was a little scared about where we were -- there is graffitti everywhere in the city.
And then once you're inside the door and have gone up the flight of stairs to our apartment this greets you .... And here are the girls at the door of the apartment (not today's picture-different clothes). The door is pretty thick and once we're inside it has a locking system that they asssure us prevents others from getting in. You turn the key in the opposite direction of what you do to get out -- I checked today to see what it does. There are these 4 bolts that come out and lodge into the door frame -- the down side of doing this means that we can't get out of the door without the key either.
You have an idea of what the apartment looks like inside but thought it might be interesting to see for yourself what we see when we step out onto our balcony ....

During todays excursion we found hot dogs -- Gabi was really excited about them so she must have had them before. We cooked them up and tried to eat them .... yes tried .....

We learned pretty quickly that you have to peel your hot dogs in Bulgaria .....

Also today for the first time there was emotion shown -- I've been a little worried about that. Ganka and her family prepared an amazing video for Gabriela -- it's taped at their church service and then Gabi's birthday party in June. It looks as if the service was devoted to saying goodbye to Gabi ..... at the birthday party too everyone presented her a gift and gave a little speech. There was a little English explanation of how good a girl Gabi is and how America is getting a special girl ..... we watched it for the second time today. The other day Gabi laughed and pointed to everyone -- today it was a somber time. I just sat with her rubbing her back as she watched .....

Oh, and here's our little princess in the tub last night -- she was in there until the water was icy and her lips were blue. Guess where she is right now .... yep, back in the tub .......

Hope you have a great Saturday. I'd like to thank everyone that's commenting or e-mailing -- it's helping me hang in there; it gets pretty lonely when the girls go to bed. I love reading about what's happening with you. And if I haven't answered your question, please ask again ......

Lastly -- someone asked how others are seeing so much in the pictures -- double click on the picture and it should open up to the full size of your screen -- hit your back button to get back to the blog.

Hi Mom, Hailee, and Gabi,
Happy Sunday by the time you read this! Only 3 mor days until we see you here in WI...We all can not wait! Are you working on the picture book so you recognize us all?

Mom, I am glad to hear that Gabi is starting to communicate better with you and Hailee, I didnt realize that there was any emtional problem, though she is probably scared because she knows she is going to come home to America and have a different language and be in non familiar surrondings.

Which reminds me, do you need Dad and I to pick up a few clothes for Gabi since the ones we have will be too big for her when she gets home? Today I found a dress for her and 2 pairs of shoes, one for when she gets home, and one for when she grows a 1/2 size or so...hopefully they work.

Today I got my hair done (really needed it pony tails were getting old. I got it highlighted (I got a new brown color put in to tone down the brassy color my hair turns in summer, and of course some red...someday I will be confident enough to make my whole head red..someday) and cut. LOVE the new colors and updated cut. Then I did a few errands, and am now here, going to tackle getting a large bagful of clothes from Gail and the girls set in Gabis room, and then onto Hailees room...ugh..that should only take a year!

Otherwise Codee and I are hanging out today..worked both jobs yesterday..love my new PT job..volunteered to work tomorrow night...

Thats about it for me! I love you all! See you soon!

Love,
Lisa

Hey Girls,
Looks like you are all enjoying your time together. I can't wait to see the pictures when you get home. :)

Kylie had her first volleyball games today. She did SO good. She's the only one on the team that hasn't played before and she's the only 3rd grader but you couldn't tell at all. She loved it and actually got the ball over the net a large majority of the time. Trev had his first football game today. He had some great tackles and he got a chance to play runningback a bit too. Jake had a boy/girl pool party at a hotel last night. 35 7th grade kids. Crazy parents!! Tonight he's off to a festival and then to a sleepover. Tomorrow both boys have fall ball (2 games each) and Kylie has dance and her first day of fast-pitch softball afterwards. Trev also starts confirmation classes tomorrow AM. We're heading to church tonight as I don't think there will be time tomorrow.

The guys are having a great time fishing. The weather is perfect and they've been catching quite a few fish, according to my dad. So different than what they're used to.

School has actually been going pretty well so far. No major issues and the days simply fly by. Of course, I'd rather still be on summer break, but at least each day we're one step closer to teacher's convention, our next break. :)

Uncle Bob finished the tiling in our downstairs bathroom. Steve is out right now buying a vanity, sink, and toilet which he hopes to put in this PM. Hopefully we'll be able to get the carpet soon.

Well, I gotta start getting ready for church. Love the pics and narrative you've been posting. Enjoy the last few days with your girls.

What happens after the appointment on Monday, when do you return to the usa? So glad everything worked out in the end, but how stressful. Are you done with the translators and driver now? How will you get to the airport, a taxi? i love seeing your pictures, thank you for sharing. Gabbi seems so sweet and it must be so helpful having Hailee there with you. I would be scared too if I saw the apartment with graffiti all over it. Did Vesta set up the appartment for you? Have a blessed Sunday.

The reaction Gabi had to the video doesn't surprise me at all, When we showed Oksana a video we had made of meeting her, the time at the Orphanage, Saying goodbye to her friends and caregivers the first time she was smiling, waving and clapping and the second/ third times were a few days later and they were more tearful and quiet, she had finally realized that she really was saying goodbye in the videos and when you are young and are leaving the only thing you've ever known its got to be very hard. I know that Gabi is happy with you and doesn't even know whats in store for her in the US and with a family.
I love all the photos you take of the surroundings Sophia is a beautiful place. Good thing they have some English signs too...I agree. :)
Just an added story for you. Oksana is now in French class with all the other grade 4's and comes home complaining..."Mom, I don't understand what they are talking about, it sounds all silly to me...are they really talking?!" He He He...now I know what she thought of us speaking English in Kazakhstan. Too Funny!
Can't wait for more posts...keep them coming!

Love all the pictures of the city you are sending and the girls bonding.
But this fishing weekend has me way out of my box, shopping and going to eat most of the time. Why can't I just sit and sew? But I did found lots of stuff, that I really don't need, to buy. Poor Rudy has been alone a lot these past few days.
Enjoy your last few days and if you do get to meet up with an interpreter ask about the finger shaking.
Thursday's play was the first one I went to in Racine and those people did a great job, guess this was the dress rehersal.

Hello Ollmann gals!

Sounds like you all had a wonderful day. Your pictures have been fantastic. Can't wait to see the other 250 some you haven't posted. (am I wrong?)

We also enjoyed a wonderful day here in TN. It started out with Norah's soccer game early in the morning. Their team won, even though they really don't keep score or have goalies. Norah actually does quite well and scored three goals in a row. It is so cute to see those cute little girls working so hard out there on the field.

Later in the afternoon we went to the Nashville Zoo. Ken and I had never been there before. We had a great time and the weather was beautiful. I really liked the Bamboo Trail. It was quite unique! We visited a little with our dads (who are doing quite nicely) and than headed home for a late dinner. All in all a great day.

Enjoy your Sunday and I can't wait to see what your next objective be. Or do you stay with the spatula hunt until you find it?

God Bless You All,
Linda

Happy Sunday!

The weather here has been perfect 70s and sunny. Feels like summer just keeps on coming.
Japrese had his first football game yesterday. He is playing line backer and running back. He started on defense and had a couple of critical tackles preventing touchdowns. His team lost against Cudahy.
Today his youth choir in singing at a rivival--I have never been to one---the tent rivivals from old movies is what comes to my mind. I am sure it will be interesting. Japrese's glasses still haven't come, he is upset with me but I tell him he can call the doctor if he wants because he thinks I am keeping them from him for some reason.
Like Stacy said school seems to be going quickly. I love having the students everyday it makes my job so much easier and basically I have 1/2 of the students I had last year. I am very relaxed and can enjoy my job.
I have been doing laundry and hanging everything outside. There is nothing like the smell of fresh sheet on the bed...mmmmmm.I love that smell.
I plan to wash my windows today since the weather is perfect and maybe even give Sequoia a bath---she had a run in with a skunk a few weeks back and I can still smell a little on her.
Other than that I will be hanging out on my hammock snoozing.
Enjoy your last few days in Sofia.

Sorry I'm a couple of days behind you. I so enjoy reading your posts—they're so rich with information. I feel like I'm there with you and the girls.

It's so fun to see Hailee and Gabi bonding. And so fortunate they have this special time together. I can't imagine watching Ganka's video without the flood gates opening, but what a gift. It is a testament that she was loved by all. Bittersweet indeed.
