This is seriously beginning to have the makings of a soap opera .....
Feeling good -- last night Jack talked with the agency in the USA and they said all is fine because of the power of attorney that we signed on our last trip. Do not worry is what Rossi said, all is good. We would be going home as planned on Wednesday.
Hailee, Gabi and I enjoyed a nice breakfast of scrambled eggs, juice and tea (yes, tea - Gabi asked for that and sugar while shopping yesterday) -- we got ready (you know, green purse, body spray, headband, lip gloss) and headed out for our last day in Sofia. The mission of the day was souveniers .....
Beautiful sunny day in Sofia today and the streets were very, very crowded with kids and teens. Every eating place was open for business (very unusual for such an early hour) and they were packed. Usually it's pretty quiet until around 10 -- thinking maybe it was a holiday we didn't know about. Eventually we learned the reason for the large crowd -- SCHOOL started today!
We worked our way through the crowds, finished our shopping and were just heading to the park when my cell phone rang - I was greeted with "Cherry (like the fruit --that's what Rossi calls me) we have emergency - Embassy needs form NOW -- you have 3 hours to get the I-600 signed by Jack to the Embassy or you cannot leave Sofia." WHAT???? OH MY GOSH, not again -- this is like a nightmare that never ends.
We went back to the apartment quickly and tried to figure things out. Poor Jack carries the brunt of everything ...... he deserves an award! Thanks also to poor Lisa who had to get up at the break of dawn and come help her dad on the computer.
As of right now the form has been completed, Jack has signed it in the correct spot, it's been scanned and e-mailed to the US Embassy ..... we'll see what happens from here .......will keep you posted.
Do I pack or don't I?????

I just finished typing my last message and magically your "While America Sleeps" blog appeared -- I can't keep up! :) Just wanted to leave a quick note saying... START PACKING! I can't believe the phone call saying you have 3 hours, so glad to hear the form is signed and hopefully all taken care of! Good job to Uncle Jack & Lisa -- let's hope that's all that needs to be done and you can finally come home!
By the way...I can't believe the kids just started school? Maybe I should consider transferring, so I'd have a few more weeks off?!? Alright, homework time. Talk to you soon.
Love,
Ashley
It's almost comical in a twisted way. Kudos to Jack and Lisa for pulling through yet again. And bravo to you for keeping it all together. This is making Kazakhstan almost look like a walk in the park. Praying this is your last "Cherry" call.
Hi Girls
Start packing we are all praying for your safe and quick return.
The weather is beautiful here, trees are turning and falling and warm days and cool nights.
Cant wait to see all of you tomorrow.
Love Aunt Gin
Hi Mom, Hailee, and Gabi,
Boy oh boy...you really need to consider writing a novel about your journeys to adopt another daughter, there have been so many trials and finally triumph with the knowledge that the panic, worry, and everything else paid off as the forms are where they need to be, and tomorrow just about 30 hours from now you will be de-planing the plane here in Milwaukee, home at last with us.
I love you all, am exhausted this morning its been a long day already, emotional...Dad and I were so worried about the form getting there and thank goodness it is and you can leave tomorrow, so...GET PACKING so we can get you home where you all belong! :*)
We are grocery shopping tonight, any requests for Gabi?, Hailee?, You? to have in the house? Let us know so we can get it tonight.
All my love,
Lisa
Pack, girls pack.
Can hardly wait to see you at the airport.
I say Pack! This is a soap opera and I will pray for you.
It's unanimous - PACK, PACK, PACK!!!
We want you home NOW!!!
See how well your family works as a unit. Everyone pulling together for a terrific ending.
Can't wait to see you all.
Love ya,
Linda

Love Donna
Grandma Pat just called and said you've received the All Clear to come home – WOOO-HOOO!
Now seems like the perfect time for a joke, to celebrate your great news... and since Gabi's first american 'holiday' (and i use the term loosely) will be "Talk Like a Pirate Day", which is celebrated this Saturday (9/19)... i'll offer up my favorite pirate joke (not suitable for all ages):
So, a pirate walks into a bar. He looks like the quintessential pirate -- peg leg, hook on one hand, eye patch, the whole nine yards. In addition to all this, he's got a steering wheel hanging from the fly of his pants.
He walks up to the bar, and orders a whiskey. The bartender pours the pirate a glass, and says to him "I don't want to offend, but I thought you should know -- you've got a steering wheel attached to your fly." The pirate nods his head, and says:
"Arrrgh, it's driving me nuts!"
Have a great trip home! =]
