Officially in Uralsk for a Month

Today we have been in Uralsk for one month, it sounds like a long time, but it really has gone quickly. I thought I'd post just a few pictures of some of the things we've seen.

Some of our "pets", as Hailee lovingly calls them. The dogs and cats are many around the apartment. No matter where we venture out to there are dogs & cats just roaming the streets. Sometimes they travel in packs - so far we have not worried at all - they do not bother you. In the beginning we wondered how the courtyards stayed so clean, you do not see messes from the animals anywhere. One morning we noticed an older lady in a bright orange vest in the courtyard cleaning things up. We're guessing the city hires them.

The Atrium where MacJohn's is located, also the Dixie Pub and bowling alley. This is also where you can exchange money and purchase the Nursat cards that allow us to stay in touch with everyone. It's pretty modern.

This gentleman was cutting the grass outside the Atrium. We couldn't help taking a picture - it's the only lawn mower that we've seen -- it's electric and Jack thought it had about a 12" cut. The man was mowing grass that was 12-18" long and it worked pretty good getting through it. You know you don't have a lot on your agenda when you can sit and watch someone cut the lawn for 15 minutes. :-)

Along one of our many walks we found an army base. There were soldiers standing just inside the gates so we couldn't take pictures of it, but just outside the gates there was this old army tank. Shannyshell and Hailee were happy to pose - the tank was used from 1942 - 1948.

This picture was taken because of the interesting art sculpture -- is it a man with a mustache? Or what? It was outside of the courthouse where we adopted Hailee from.

Hi guys,

Well, somehow your math has to be off a little. Because I swear you have been gone way longer than a month. Seems like three months easily. I bet Lisa and Linda would agree. Glad things are rolling along so well. Hoping the physical was okay and the paper work goes through quickly. Thanks for all the photos. Nice to see your suroundings. Maybe when you get home, you might get Hailee a kitty. Come on Jack, just think about it. She will miss all her pets. Seems wierd to see all those pets just lose and laying around. I am just home from grocery shopping, prices here are continually climbing. Has anyone told you the price of gas is about 4.00 a gallon? Nice hey? We don't do any trips in the car anymore without thinking twice about it. Oh well, someone needs to keep the ecomony going, might as well be gas prices. That is about all for now. Maybe I will write again tonight. Love and miss you all, God Bless..

Well, duh! (As Garfield would say! I still have that poster, Jack.) The Ollmanns are having quite an adventure- of course! What else could it be with Jack around. I can't believe both of your older kids are married- and Jon is a daddy! Mary Loose keps me informed and just sent me your blog. I love being retired. And I agree- Hailee shoud have a kitten. You are all in my prayers!

Diane Brunner -- how wonderful to hear from you! It's been a while you know . . . . how are you doing?

Jack isn't in agreement with you on the cat ......... there's lots of sighing & moaning going on here about it. :-)

Have you been traveling the world?

Hi,

I can help find a cat! I haven't been as far as I would like, bit I have made it to Disney World 4 times since I retired. I need to find friends with money and a desire to travel. All the poor ones are ready to go! I am volunteering yet at the zoo and started at the Blood Center and the Travelers Ais Desk at the airport- never a dull moment there! The most frequent question is what food places are on my concourse- not is there food- but they are picky! Get on the plane and get out of here! I will keep you in my prayers.
