Thursday - Post #2

Hi -- bet you thought you weren't going to hear about Miss Veeka but you are. Had to stop to make some dinner -- our last package of Mrs. Grass's soup tonight.

We went for our visit at 11 and were greeted by the director who invited us to watch the children's program for Victory Day which is tomorrow the 9th. We were given places of honor -- directly in front with comfy chairs.

The program was fantastic even though we couldn't understand a word of it. All the children from the orphanage were there. The music room was decorated with balloons and things were hanging from the ceiling -- beautiful. The youngest group of Kazak children (maybe 4-7) did most of the program. They sang, danced and recited poems. They were all dressed in black and white with hair done just so. The girls all wore the big fluffy bows that look so cute. The younger Russian children came up and did a couple songs that the whole group clapped too, at the end Veeka's group of children (the 8-11 year olds) came up and did a few solos and sang. We were so glad to be able to see such a production - obviously they worked long and hard on it. I wish we had been able to take pictures to share with you -- it truly was a wonderful program.

When we were sitting there and watching the children you can't help but feel that each of them deserves a home and family. We all know how the gym is packed with parents and grandparents to watch our own children in their activities. In this room there were teachers, caregivers, administrators and us --- the only adults watching this beautiful program that they had worked so hard on. Each child that performed separately watched us -- at the end of the program my cheeks actually hurt from all the smiling -- I wanted each child that watched me to know that I thought they were doing a fantastic job!

After the program we were invited to take Veeka upstairs and visit with her. She was so much fun today. We tried on the smallest of clothes that we had brought with and she drowns in them. We were able to get measurements and we think she will fit in the 8-10 range. She is about 4'-3" tall.

I'm posting a couple pictures from today - we played cats cradle for the whole time and she loved it. There was so much laughter from her and Hailee when they messed up and couldn't figure out what to do. Good to hear. Toward the end of the visit Veeka and I tried - when the psychologist said it was time for us to go Veeka gave me a hug & kiss right away. Then to Hailee who got the biggest hug yet! Poor Jack is still patiently waiting.

Since we were asked to get some clothes for Veeka we headed to the outdoor market to get an outfit. We found the perfect color (she loves red) and bought socks, hair things (Stacy, I remembered -- no outfit is complete without matching hair accessories, right?) and two pairs of shoes -- a pair of tennis shoes and a pair of sandals (when Luba asked her what type of shoes she liked she said sandals so we had to get a pair). It was a lot of fun. We'll have to get her a couple more outfits once we can take her shopping with us.

That's about it for today ..... another great day!!! Tomorrow will be two visits -- one from 11-12 and the other from 4-5.

Hi Guys,

What a great morning here. Thanks for the surprise phone call. So good to hear your voice bro. It seems you are so close, yet not. The photos are wonderful. It gives us a sense of what you are doing and the market surprised me. I thought it was much smaller and so much to look through. I can see why Hailee likes to go there. Even if new things aren't brought in daily, you most likely wouldn't see everything in one visit. Veeka sure is tiny. But such a large lovely smile.

Talking with Jack this am gave me the time table I was wondering about. I know he is disappointed about the fishing trip, maybe they could go a different weekend somewhere. Lucky for me Brian will be home now, we are in the rummage sale at OCCC on the 17th. He will be a big help in setting up and hauling things. Nan is helping also and bringing some of her unwanted things.

I am wondering about your dinners you make, what are you doing now if you are out of the things you brought? Have you found soups or casseroles there? If you need any receipes, let us know. With the abundance of fruit, I am assuming the veggies are in season also. A stir fry should be doable. Let us know what their food is like. Although you have a picky eater with you (Jack). Well enough for now, have a great weekend, hope you get lots more visits with Veeka, send out our hugs and kisses to her and Hailee, and you two also. We miss you all, but are thanking God that you have found each other. As Jack said this morning, this is why we came, we found the daughter we were meant to have. Love and Hugs.....

I didn't think you would post without including Veeka in it. How wonderful for you to be able to see her first school performance right there. I smiled the entire time I read it (and a tear or two also) just remembering back to those days.

I spent some time thinking last night about activities to do with Veeka, but the things I thought about take some resources. I'm sure you would have them readily available at home, but not there. Hopefully you will be able to take her out soon and things will just flow.

Hugs & Kisses to all...
Linda

Hello I have been reading. We still haven't heard from our computer guy what is up with the computer. I am so glad that everything is working out. She is a doll....It looks like and sounds like hailee and Veeka just click so well together. How neat. Do you have any idea when you can come home??? We will go visit dad this sunday. Sam comes home on the 13 or 14th. It will be nice to have her home. no job. She wants to do soccer. She needs to be back August 15 for that. So the Lake Lawn Lodge won't hire her because they want her to work till Sept 3.
david has found some odd jobs to do. just to keep himself busy. garrett shows his cattle again next weekend alot closer to home. Janesville. Not much else is going on here. better go. I have to go back to work. Well, I'll keep reading and try to post more frequently.... Love you, Kim
