Wednesday - May 7

Good Evening everyone. We've enjoyed another beautiful day in Uralsk. The weather is warm, not very sunny today, but nice. This morning was a lazy day for us, kind of nice since we haven't had many of them lately.

We headed to the market to search for the book we wanted. It is an adventure that's for sure. We tried 3 or 4 bookstores before one finally had the book Yulia had described for us. We were excited to find a souvenier type shop who had some reasonably priced things -- what was marked 400 tenge each he sold us for 200 tenge because we bought 8 of them. (As I've said before they know we're Americans just by looking at us) The gentleman at the store was actually leaving to go to lunch, he saw us and invited us into his store and was so helpful - he knew we were going to buy something!

Our visit went well. Veeka was brought to the visiting room and we played a game with the book we bought. Yulia helped us learn the Russian word for the toy and Veeka said the English word. After we went through them once Yulia decided we needed to be quizzed - first she had Veeka point to a toy and say the English word, we then had to point to a toy and say the Russian word. If anyone has ever tried to learn Russian it's not easy -- they do some funky rolling of the r's and e's have another odd sound to them -- they don't alway open their mouth to form the sound and Yulia would try to show us the sound but it's hard to see what the tongue is doing when the teeth are clamped shut. Oh my -- needless to say Veeka was the overall winner of that game!!

Anyone have ideas of games/activities that we can do in a room? We weren't prepared for someone so young so we're scrambling for ideas. We brought beads, coloring books & crayons, cards and even used some of that precious black yarn to do cats cradle. The visits aren't long but so far we haven't been allowed to take her outside to play -- no idea why -- we do have a nerf football and a frisbie if we can go out. We're doing some struggling with this.

Two wonderful things today -- the psychologist said that Veeka is happier than she was, she was so proud to share the cookies that we bought at the store. She also said that she has approved us for the adoption because of the changes she has seen in Veeka. YAY!!! Next -- at the end of the visit Veeka gave Hailee a big hug and a kiss on the cheek AND I got one too!!! It really warms the heart!!! (I'm sure the psychologist encouraged her a bit but we'll take it!) Jack is still waiting for his turn, but it will come in time ............

Jack was a happy man with dinner tonight -- we found hamburger when we shopped earlier this week (Yulia promised that it was hamburger) and so we made burgers. Couldn't find buns but we did find dinner rolls and they worked fine. Made our last box of macaroni & cheese and the canned corn they have here (which by the way is the sweetest, freshest tasting we've ever had) and it tasted/felt just like hom

Missing everyone, but feeling so much more hopeful and happy! Love to all!

Ending with a few pictures of our trip to the zoo. Quite interesting ........
The zoo is small with just a few animals really. The cages are 2-3 in a short semi-trailer.
There is a metal pan at the bottom of the cage that has a handle -- this is the way they feed the animals.
There was a camel and a monkey in the middle that you could have your picture taken with. There was also a small shetland pony that was available to ride for a few tenge.

Oh my how wonderful...Hug AND a Kiss...couldn't get better than that. That is so great to know that you have made her happier already. Your hearts must be melting. Now I just want you to scoop her up and bring her home!!!
Not the greatest day here either, no sun, just rain off and on.
I will dig back in my "preschool time" brain and see if I can think of some activities you could do with her. I guess it makes it hard when you were all set for an older girl, but truthfully I think Hailee will make a mighty good BIG SISTER.
I sent a couple of emails to your rr account. Did you get those?
Hope tomorrows visit is even better. I can totally feel the joy in your words.
Much Love

Hi guys,
Sounding good day by day. I can hardly wait to take the girls to our zoo, you know me.The only games I can think of is fish or memory match with cards. Have to let you know how my deck is coming along, I had bird seed in two feeders and the racoons came and did them in, so I went to finch seed-thisle stuff and again two nights ago they came back. Now I have two plant dish things on stands and a sort of bird bath sitting on the deck-no stand, waiting to see what they can wreck next. What I am now doing is putting the finch feeder out for the day and taking it in at night.
Rudy shagged up a coyote out of our back trees yesterday, had my heart spinning for a while really glad the leash didn't break cause that poor thing was really going.
Great pictures of the girls, Hailee looks so proud. What size would Veeka be in clothing?
How's the peanut butter coming?

What wonderful news. I know this is only the beginning, but what else do you have to wait for now?
I'm sure everyone would like an idea of what is ahead for you all. Are other families near you? (adoptive)
So many questions I would like to ask, but will wait, hard for me to do mind you. Today was a quiet one for me, took the Klein kids to the ortho, lunch and back to school, amid much whining. I am getting a cold and feel tired and yucky. I went to the home to see mom and your dad, only got to see mom for a short while. Read her the letter and showed the photos. Her reaction was, what a cutie! Your dad was laying down this afternoon, I will try to see him in a day or two. I think mom got most of what I was reading, she won't remember though. We waited together until she went to get her hair done, then I came home. Nancy is having us out for dinner tonight. Lucky Brian, he will get more there than he would have here tonight!! Talk again soon, love and hugs to all FOUR of you....

Hailee,
Kylie wanted to write to you tonight, but she asked me to type for her because I type faster. Here's her message to you:

I hope that you bring Victoria home soon. I think she looks like she'll be an awesome cousin, just like you! Do you think she'd like to go to Chicago with us to the American Girl store? We'll have lots of fun showing her where we went. I want to take her to the Hershey store too. She reminds me of my American Girl, Julie, except she has brown hair instead of blonde. The bracelet that Veeka made (in the picture) looks awesome! She's really good at beading. I hope you bring her back home really soon!! I miss you! Sincerely, Kylie

Trevor's message:
I can't wait to teach Victoria all about video games. :) :) :)

Jake's busy eating cereal. He just got home from basketball. The way he eats lately, I can't believe he's still not growing! Not sure where he puts all the food he eats!! He said to tell Hailee hi.

I shared pics of Veeka with a bunch of my students today. They agree, she's absolutely adorable! :) How wonderful that she's bonding so well with Hailee already. Hailee will definitely make a great big sister to her. Veeka's one lucky girl!! When she's ready for it, give her hugs from all of us.

Gotta get the kids showered and ready for bed. Can't wait to see more pics soon.

Hugs to all of you..
