What It Looks Like in Uralsk

Thought I'd post a few pictures of our walks around Uralsk --

This first picture is the trees around our area. We're not sure why they cut the tops off -- they leave one major branch and then round them off. They are only about 10 feet tall -- all the same height along the street and are painted white around the bottom of the trunk. (all trees along the roadway are painted like this) We heard two reasons why this is done -- we're not sure which is correct. One is the paint protects the trees from the salt -- the other is that it's a protection from bugs.
This is a bus stop -- they are located on every street about 2-3 blocks apart. Each bus stop has a small store attached to it with a covered area for the people to sit or stand. As we've said before the busses are always full. This picture is of a stop where the bus just left.

The next two photos are of the open market. We were shopping with Luba, our translator, and had a great time today. At the one booth we are checking out underwear for Victoria - they really do only have a pair or two in certain designs or sizes. You go from booth to booth to try to find exactly what you want.

SNOW IN URALSK??? No, it's Cottonwood time -- we walked through an area today that was just covered in the cotton droppings. It was actually like a snowstorm in some areas -- a bit windy and it was blowing from the trees. The cars going through the streets would whip up the winds and we felt as if we were walking through a winter wonderland. Lots of fun -- but those little cotton things get in your eyes, nose and mouth! Yuck!!!

The pictures are great and I do remember Cottonwood, that was the worst time of the year for me to try to breath. The shops remind me of State Fair shopping in the International section.
The trees almost look fake all being the exact same. I have a Sparrow nesting in the bird house I put on the deck, now I have something to watch. And the Finches are coming back, I take the feeder in at night and put it out early for them, the heck with the racoons they can find food for themselves. You missed my first beef roast, it turned out good and had Bob, Gin, Brian and Pat over to see how the place is coming along. Gas went up to $3.83.

Thanks for a look at what life is like for you right now. You seem like your finally relaxed and getting on with preparations for Veeka. She may only have a few things to wear right now, but that won't be the case for much longer. I am so excited for you all just thinking about what this means for her future. This was the plan all along!
Today is a little cooler here, in the 50's but sunny. It's been a busy week for me, not really sure why, doesn't seem like I actually accomplished anything, but looking forward to the weekend.
Have a wonderful day!!!!!!
Love,
Linda
