The Visits Begin

We had a wonderful time yesterday at the market. It was amazing . . . . much better than 7-mile fair. The whole thing is organzied by tools, housewares, clothes, shoes, cleaning supplies, etc. Amazing! We found Hailee's black yarn there and ha a fun time "talking" to the people at the booth. We are a novelty here and if they know English they can't wait to try it out on us. (Yarn is cheap here all you knitters & crocheters 180 tenge for a skein (that's about $1.40))

We found something we had seen and planned to buy (can't tell you what) and it was about 1/2 price at the open market. So, we bought 2 -- the gentleman at the booth was so excited -- he opened up the boxes, took them out, repacked them and bought a bag from a vendor there so we could carry them. We felt so good buying those two items from him. The total of the two things was about $20 and you would have thought we had just spent $1000.

The fruit available was incredible -- every thing looked so yummy. Hailee couldn't pass up the kiwi -- and just so you know kiwi is kiwi in Russian too! The amount of candy they have available is something else too -- we had to get some of that too!

Now on to today - another day of waiting -- until 4:00. We actually cleaned the apartment -- no one would believe the amount of dust that comes in. It's everywhere. We visited Hailee's orphanage today and met a 10, almost 11, year old girl. She's so tiny and shy, but she smiled and answered questions. She did get scared and started to cry when the social worker asked her about her home before the orphanage. They took her out of the room then but we met up with her again out in the yard. When we walked and talked she opened up a bit. Tomorrow we will visit at 10 a.m. again and bring some things to do (and a treat) and see how it goes.

We also were shown an even tinier 9 year old who is just as cute. But at this time we are hoping that the older girl will be the one. Time will tell. There is also a sibling set here available -- 10 & 11 year old girls who we did not meet today. We both feel that bringing 2 home might be more than we can handle, but we have not closed the door on it either.

We believe, as most of you do, that there is a child here for us -- we just have to find her.

We also love reading about the things that are happening at home.

Maria we really laughed at your story (and missed pancake day too - that's the one thing Jack consistently says he's missing - PANCAKES) and I can picture you smiling and walking away!! Ann, I meant to reassure you a while back that yes, we're changing ........ and thank you also for the support you've given -- keep it coming!! Mrs. H. your post is not too long -- right now I don't think anything can be too long, except maybe our stay here. And Karen, we think we may beat your 50 day record stay in Uralsk! Kyle - Hailee really appreciated your comments, she's really missing school and everyone there. Mary, I love the reference to the song, I'd love to hear it when we get home. (home, doesn't that sound wonderful???)

Till tomorrow -- love & hugs!

I was glad to hear that you were continuing your search. It was nice that they let you start again on Sunday.
Today, Ken and I are going to be working on the kitchen again. I can't remember if I told you or not, but we started ripping down the wallpaper a couple of weeks ago. The wallpaper came down very nicely, but the border is giving us a run for our money and it just seems like we never get time to work on it. Have finally picked a color and today we will probably just be doing a lot of wall prep.
Have a wonderful day together and as always...I can't wait to find out how your day has gone.
Love ya & miss ya a lot!

Hi Guys,
Sorry I wasnt able to post yesterday, we started at 8:00 with breakfast with Duane and Kristina, and then it was off to look at 5 different houses for them all in the West Allis, New Berlin Area..I so wished I was at home so I could talk to you...I needed to hear your voices and talk to you...and this morning, I tried you 4 different times, and okay its a little much, but I really wanted to talk to you, and it just rang and rang, and rang...I will try again tomorrow.. as I really want to talk to you guys..missing you alot. Anyways, yesterday we looked at houses for them, it just made me want a single family house even more. There was a really nice one for 135,000 that they are debating, if it were me I would scoop it up in a heartbeat because all it needed was 3 rooms worth of updated flooring, and someday to update the kitchen, but it was a dry finished basement, 2.5 car garage and it was a 3 bedroom house with natural hardwood flooring throughout underneath the carpeting. They would be able to move in right away and live there without having to do anything first. For a first house it was perfect, and they are hemming an hawing because they think they can find something bigger for the same price...I kind of chuckled because this was just over 1,000 sq feet, and to be in the condition its in with one owner who is moving to a retirement community..its just silly that they arent jumping on it. The house is in a nice area of West Allis and is appraised above 150, and in a few years and a few updated could be resole for a profit once the market turns around...Then we came back here, Kristina and I went and saw the movie Made of Honor, it was better then we thought it was going to be..and the guys hung out and played their favorite video game while dinner was made, and they left pretty late last night. Today will just be chores of cleaning up after having them and the dog over, and then who knows. I cant believe next weekend is Mothers Day already, and I will be another year older that weekend...time is just flying when I think about it, but crawling at the same time as I am lonely here without you here. Really missing you, and cant wait to talk to you soon! Love You All SOOOOO Much! Lisa

Hi World travelers,
The open market sounds so cool. Do you find that there are some smells with Uralsk? Japrese and I were talking about how some cities or areas have unique smells. Little league had a fund raiser- bowling- we both did above our averages. Japrese's high was 112 and mine was 175- the highest I have ever gotten. We even won 2 raffles. Today was so nice- we mowed the grass and planted yet more flowers. My tulips are blooming and the grass is so green and lush. I am ready for bed right now, I worked most of the day outside. We got a new foster yesterday---for 1 1/2 month kitties. Two are black and 2 mixed orange calico and black. One looks like it has a zipper down its stomach and the sides are mismatched. Aren't were lucky to be able to wear jeans for the rest of the year!!!! I applied and received a school transfer for Japrese--I am hoping a male EBD teacher and principal might prove effective. I have signed us up for a RAD camp in August 7 days. Its going to be in Tennessee. Horse backing riding, etc. The big draw for me is its run by Nancy Thomas, a famous RAD therapist. The host has told me we will not return as the same family. I particularly like that "if your child misbehaves that the staff will remove your child and the parent may continue with the activity. I have warned Japrese that will be hard work for both of us. I am hoping to learn how to be a more effective parent. Japrese has been having 1 really rough day per week. The staff just can't seem to figure out why.

Hi,

I'm glad to hear that you're changing : ) I hope your next visits go well. It must be so hard to try to figure out which child to go with. Does the orphanage give you any background information about the children or even some basics about their likes and dislikes? I'm sure it's very hard for these kids to have to make such a grown up decision of choosing to go with a family after only a few visits with you. I know that you're wonderful people with big hearts and that you'll provide whatever child you adopt with a warm and loving family but it seems like they require the child to make the decision after only a couple of visits. It sounds like a difficult situation all around.
We had a beautiful day here today. It was in the 60s and sunny. I have to get the lawn mowed this week. My tulips and daffodils are blooming and my magnolia tree is beautiful. I'm working hard to get my house and garage more organized to make room for the things from school that I want to bring home over the summer. I love my little house but I don't have a basement so storage space is limited. The beagles spent most of the day playing crazy games in the yard or just relaxing in the sun. We went for several walks as well. I had a German Shepherd join my Basic class for a make-up lesson yesterday and I, must admit, I kind of freaked out when they came in. The dog was a beauty and the people were good handlers but I guess that dog bite traumatized me more than I realized. I'm hoping I'll have some more shepherds in upcoming classes so I can get over that fear. The bruising is gone but I still have the puncture wounds in my arm that haven't healed yet.
The market you went to sounds neat. In Costa Rica we liked to go to places like that although they could be dangerous because that's where all of the petty thieves hung out. You couldn't take a purse or anything with you and you had to keep your hand in your pocket on your money at all times. We liked to buy funny looking fruits or vegetables and take them to our host family to ask them what they were and how to eat them. We found some pretty strange looking items that we would have had no idea what to do with on our own. That's what makes going to a foreign country fun - learning all of those things that you would never learn from a book, that you would only learn by going there.
Well, it's time to take the beagles for one more walk before bedtime. I'll be thinking and praying for you in the upcoming days. I know there's a child out there just waiting for your love. I pray that's your paths will connect.
Hugs,
Ann Duquaine

Hello Ollmann's

We had a nice day here finally. Went to church and Pastor said a very nice prayer for you all, Brian worked outside in the front yard and I had Sadie around noon. She has a cold again, poor little thing. Barb Schmidt came and visited for awhile, then it was everything at once. They came for Sadie, we were trying to get ready for the party for Lindsay and Brian had to quit working and get dressed. It all worked out and it was a nice day. Tomorrow is Brett's birthday so we are staying for dinner. Gram T. will come along. I didn't get to the nursing home today, Nan went and said mom was confused. A few days with the new roomie and maybe she will come around. We'll see. So all in all another week gone, hope this week goes super great for all of you. We continue to keep you in our prayers, miss you all and wish that wand would work better. Sending you all our love and hugs, remember how many people are pulling for each and everyone of you. Have a good day tomorrow.

We're so glad to hear that you're meeting more girls. My 3 kiddos are so curious, anxious, and excited each day to hear about your updates. In fact, they now ask me if I've checked the blog before I even get down the steps in the AM. Trevor's thinking a 9 year old would be a really, really good choice. :)

We had an interesting evening here. Kylie and I were putting laundry away and I happened to look out my bedroom window. Quincy, Coakley's outdoor cat, had a baby bunny in its mouth. I thought it was dead, but figured out it wasn't once I heard the bunny squealing. Kylie went flying down the steps and out the front door yelling at Quincy. Together, we "rescued" the bunny. Kylie fed Quincy and I used a rake to get it into a box. Steve and the boys were fishing at the lake (our subdivision lake, not Gin & Bob's). When they got home, Steve and the kids made a home for the bunny so we can make sure it stays safe overnight. I knew there was a reason I saved the hamster's bedding when they died. :) Trevor and Kylie have already named the bunny. I'm sure they'll be disappointed when we let it go. Steve and I just want to make sure it's okay before setting it out by the woods. Definitely a more exciting and eventful evening than I had planned.

As everyone else has said, the weather here was beautiful today. Jake had a soccer game. I was tickled pink, as he had decided he was quitting soccer. He missed the first two games and then decided he missed it too much. That, of course, makes me smile, as you know how much I love watching him play. He scored two goals today, but his team lost by one.

That's about it here. I've gotta go grade some research papers and get ready for school tomorrow. Only 28 days to go. Not that I'm counting or anything. :)

Best of luck tomorrow. You know we'll all be thinking of you, praying for you, and anxiously awaiting your update.

Hugs to all...

Hey Guys,

Julie and I are doing well we are just so sorry to hear what is going on with you guys, i know that you guys should keep trying cause if you come home without a child you will not feel complete, I say keep looking until God show's you the right one, the one that really needs you and you really need her. we keep praying for you. O.k packer news the draft was last weekend and the great G.M traded our first round pick for 2 2nd round picks, they took 2 qb's and a reciever and a couple line men, nothing too impressive, and farve still hasn't signed his retirement papers. Election news still to close to call between hil ans obama. Well thats all for now We love you guys keep strong
